Day 137: Setback But Moving Forward

Today I have some bad news. Last week I was able to get a D.P. who agreed to help shoot the Indiegogo video this last Saturday. I was all ready to go in and shoot the video. I had my lines mostly down and I was ready. Alas, I can’t control the actions of other people and he did not show. This means that I sadly wasn’t able to shoot the Indiegogo video this weekend.

I’m still moving forward though. I’ll reschedule the shoot for a later date-right now I’m going to concentrate on getting the voice lines for the teaser part of the video. As a reminder this is my plan for the Indiegogo video:

[*] A teaser with shots of woods with lines of the characters over it.

[*] A video of me speaking to the camera selling the project to people.

Once I have the recording of the character lines, I’m hoping to also get shots of the woods. That’s about a quarter of the video that I’ll be concentrating now and is a key part of selling the project to people.

Today I went through and organized the submissions on Backstage. It’s not too late so submit: I am still accepting submissions! Having said that, it is time for me to start making decisions.

Day 136: Final Prep Day

Tomorrow is finally the day where I shoot the Indiegogo pitch video. I’ve gone through the lines today. I continued to work on my appearance-for instance, I got a haircut and finalized my wardrobe for tomorrow. I’ll continue to get ready for the rest of the day but I wanted to release this quick update.

Hopefully the shoot goes well tomorrow!

Update on Crew:

I still need a boom mike operator to join the crew but if I don’t find anyone, I’ll have to cross that bridge tomorrow.

Update on Casting:

I’ve gotten many auditions for some of the roles (Odessa/Austin/Computerized Message) but I could still use more auditions for Laredo/Dallas/Houston/Antonio! Thanks to everyone who has auditioned so far though! I can’t wait to really go through all of the submissions!

Day 135: Prep Work

I continued to work on getting as familiar with the lines as I can before Saturday. I’ve also started to prepare my appearance for the shoot: trying to make myself as presentable as possible and going through possible wardrobe options. I’ll keep doing prep work tomorrow.

Update on Crew:

It looks like I’m going ahead with the Saturday shoot! I have locked in and confirmed a Director of Photography who will help set up the shoot and film it. I still need a boom mike operator to join the crew but if I don’t find anyone, I’ll have to cross that bridge on Saturday.

Day 134: Saturday Shoot

Today I started going over the script for the Saturday shoot: this is an important part of the video so I want to get as familiar with the lines as possible. I might make some small alterations of the script but for the most part I’m just going over the lines and even practicing how to say them in front of a mirror.

Day 133: Updates

Update on Crew:

I am still waiting to get final confirmation or hear back from people so I haven’t locked the crew down yet. That’s part of the reason these updates are coming later: waiting to hear back from other people. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to confirm at least part of the crew for the shoot by the end of day tomorrow. If you’d like to join the crew, please get in touch with me! I still need people!

Day 132: Crew

So I do have some updates on the search for a crew for this weekend: I’m actually pretty close to getting a camera person! I still need someone for audio but if I can lock in a camera person over the next couple of days, then I think I’ll be able to get a boom mike operator. If not, I’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it.

If you’d like to help out for the shoot this weekend, it’s not too late to volunteer! Just send me a message. Please feel free to get in touch with me! I’d also like to thank everyone who has been helping me over the last couple of days/weeks: I really appreciate it!

A note:

[*] Thank you to everyone who has auditioned so far! As a note, I don’t plan on really reviewing the submissions until February rolls around. I especially need submissions for Houston, Laredo, Antonio, and Dallas.

Day 131: Crew Update

Okay so I still haven’t found a crew. I do have feelers out there, thanks to my friends who have been very helpful in trying to find people who can help me, so I’m going to give it the weekend before making any decision about shooting the Indiegogo video on January 30th. I might just have a crew one of one, someone to handle the audio, while I handle the camera. It’s not the ideal scenario but that’s life for you.

If you can help, I could certainly use you! Feel free to contact me at any time!

I also had some positive meetings with some people and I’m feeling pretty positive about the project!

Day 130: Crew

Today I kept working on getting a crew for the Indiegogo video. I am getting closer and making progress but as it turns out, it’s more difficult to get a free crew in Los Angeles than I had anticipated. I’ve been reaching out to more people, trying to get the word out more by going to colleges, and even reaching out to companies that I used to intern at. I’m hoping by end of day tomorrow to have people.

If I can’t find a crew by the end of tomorrow, I’ll have to make a choice: postpone the shoot until I can get a crew in place or try to shoot the video without a crew. While I can handle the camera work by myself, it would be the audio that I’d really be concerned with. The camera stands on it’s own thanks to the tripod but I do need someone to hold the mike.

The good news is that the only issue is the crew. Whether I shoot it on January 30th or a later date, I still have my location (my apartment) and my equipment.

Day 129: Crew Call

Hello!

Today I expanded the search for an Indiegogo crew to the general public.

If you are interested in helping me shoot the Indiegogo video in return for pizza, free Coffee Bean coffee, and a credit under the Indiegogo Team in the final movie then please send an application! You can do this by using the comment form on the front page of this website.

I need a Director of Photography to handle the camera, a boom mike operator to get audio, and I’d also like a gaffer to properly light the scene. You must be a local to Los Angeles.

Day 128: Crew Search

I made one last push on my own network to see if I can get a crew of two together today. If I don’t have anyone biting then tomorrow I’m going to start expanding the search to the general public.

There really isn’t  a lot more for me to say at this point. I have the equipment. Once I’ve got a crew, I’ll be ready to shoot the video on January 30th. After that, I’ll concentrate on getting the pitch video edited and I’ll start working on the Indiegogo teaser trailer. Then it’ll be time to finalize the actual Indiegogo page.
